Online Experience A Wrap up/Reflection

Technology is important because it provides us with easy, more effective solutions to everyday living. More people than ever before own a cell phone and laptop over the past 5 years. In the next five years, I don’t think stores will be selling any phones with buttons. The technology I use for my school work are my phone, for a calculator, and computer, for information. The technology I use for personal use are my phone, iPod, iPad, computer, and TV. I think I will use a widget or gadget for a countdown to a specific date or simply a clock. I think a Wiki is the most practical for lifelong learning because Wikis always have some information about the topic available. I don’t think I will ever use a blog ever again because I don’t like posting information about me. My favorite one of these tools to create was creating an avatar because you can make it look like you or not. My least favorite was making a podcast and recording my voice because at the end, it didn’t seem to sound like me.

Voki vs. Blabberize

Making an avatar on Voki was easier to use, than to make one on Blabberize. Voki, you got to create an avatar from scratch. Blabberize, you had to choose an existing photo. I liked the Voki avatar better than the Blabberize avatar. I would probably use Voki again. You could possibly use these in other classes by using it with a visual project. If you were doing a project on Ben Franklin, you could use blabberize and make him talk.

Real Life Stories

1. What personal information did Teresa give out? Her name
2. Have you ever put personal information on the Internet? yes
3. What do you believe is the most important thing to remember when using the Internet? Do not put personal information

Your Photo Fate

When someone sends you a really graphic photo, don’t show other people. Also, don’t send it to other people because you, the person who sent it, and the people who saw it will get in huge trouble. Don’t put the picture on social networking sites so everyone can see it too. Think before you post.

Digital Footprint

When I searched for myself, I found my facebook page. When I searched my images, I found a couple of my pictures. I am surprised to see that my cover photo from Facebook was on google images. There is nothing that I am embarassed about. What I might want to do in the future to ensure my footprint accurately represents the picture is to not put bad pictures up.

Cyber Bully

In the movie, Taylor got bullied online and in school. In class we talked about how cyber bullying is not only online. When she went to the group to talk about the issue, they talked about not fighting back. They also talked about how you should tell an adult or print the messages for evidence. When you are talking to someone online, you don’t know who it is. The cyber bully turned out to be her best friend. This case was very similar to the cases we talked about in class. The only difference is that she didn’t commit suicide, she only thought of it.

Netiquette

Netiquette is how you behave on-line. Netiquette affect you. Netiquette also affects people that you are talking to. An example of good netiquette is respecting the people you are communicating with. Another example is the “Golden Rule.” An example of poor netiquette is pointing out netiquette violations. Also, Breaking the law is poor netiquette.

Is Downloading Music Legal?

Free music downloading sites claim to be legal. Those statements are true, but very misleading. MP3 is legal because it is just a file format. File sharing can be legal but the majority of them on P2P networks violate copyright laws. MP3's that are made from CD's and then put on the Net by individuals who haven't got permission from the artist or music company is illegal. What is legal is when you to make a copy of a CD for your own personal use. What is illegal, is if you make more copies and give or sell them to other people. Some artists allow their songs to be downloaded from their websites. Others have embedded services in their sites that allow purchases of their singles or albums. The band Bomb The Music Industry! released all five of their albums as free downloads on their website.

Dr. Dre and the Deep Note

When the Napster maelstrom hit the recording industry, Dr. Dre, along with Metallica, was one of the first to hurl accusations of copyright infringement. Dr. Dre is furious that people are using Napster to download his song "Lolo" without permission or license. This case happened in 2001 and it also happended on Napter, a free music downloading site. http://www.benedict.com/Audio/Dre/Dre.aspx

Cuba Project

My Favorite part about the project was putting the PowerPoint together. That part was my favorite because i already had the information and all I had to do was type it in. My least favorite part was presenting my PowerPoint in front of the class. The current information was really difficult to find about my country.

Technology Article

The article I read was called "Before you buy: 12 things to know about the iPad." This article was mainly about how the iPad is different from Laptops and Kindles. The article also tells you why there are different price ranges for the iPad. That is because the iPads that cost more, have more storage.http://articles.cnn.com/2010-04-02/tech/ipad.preview_1_buy-ipad-kindle-buy-an?_s=PM:TECH
